How To Make An Aquaponics System At Home

By Claudette Lambert

If one would want to know of a way where in he could keep healthy plants and sea creatures at the same time without having to tend to them every now and then, then he should consider trying to make a small aquaponics fish tank where in the plants can be fed with the waste water of the fish. For those who have never heard of this system, it is one where the environment is filled with water plants and animals. The best part is that it is so easy to make and can easily be done in the house.

Of course if one would want to create this kind of system, then he has to have a large fish tank where he can make it. Now to start the whole process, he must first take a small plant pot and put some pebbles or garden stones inside. From there, he must take a small plant and plant it inside the small pot.

One very important point to take into consideration would be the height of the plant. One must always make sure that his plant is slightly taller than the fish tank so that just the tip of the plant will be able to have some fresh air. Also make sure that the pot is heavy enough to support the plant so that it does not float away.

Notice that there is a hole underneath all small plant pots. Now these holes will come in handy when one is going to connect it to a water pump. To do this, one must plug the tube into the hole of the pot and glue it so that it does not come off.

Once this has been done, then take the other side of the tube and stick it into the water pump. The water pump will be the one that will continuously pump the water into the pot and just force it out into the tank. By doing this, the plant is being fed with the waste water of the tank which will be cleaned up again anyway.

After that, one may now put some aquatic animals inside the tank. The easiest ones to take care of would obviously be fish because they are known to be extremely resilient creatures that know how to survive on their own. Just remember to feed them regularly so that the waste water can be absorbed by the plant.

Of course once one has already finished making the system, he still has to make sure to do regular maintenance. The only difference in having an aquaponics tank as compared to a real fish tank would be that one would not need to clean it so much anymore. One just probably needs to clean the tank about once in a month.

Now if one is really interested in creating an aquaponics system, then just follow these few steps. Of course one will have the liberty to choose how many plants he would want to put into the system. He does not even need to take care of them that much because of the system.
