Fixing Garden Hooks The Right Way

By Andrea Davidson

An excellent way of enhancing your home and outdoors is by using garden hooks. A huge basket hanging on your deck and is filled with beautiful flowers will greatly enhance the beauty of your deck or patio area. Other items that look lovely hanging from a hook are like wind chimes, bird feeders and lanterns. Here are some excellent tips to help bring that exquisite look to your home, whichever type of hook you decide to use.

When fixing a screw-in hook, first select a post which is wooden on which you install the hook. Mark the post using a pencil. Using a drill and drill bit, drill a 2-inch deep hole into the wooden post. The next step is to align the screw-in hook in the pilot hole you have made.

In order for the hook to be threaded into the wooden post, twist the hook in a clockwise direction. You should continue turning it until the threads are completely in the wood. For the hook to be able to hold the basket firmly, ensure that you cease from turning the hook when it faces upwards.

If perhaps you would want to use screw-mounted hooks, always begin by holding the hook against the chosen wooden post upon which you would like to fix it. With the use of a pencil, place a mark in the mounting holes within the hook. Next, with the use of a drill and a 1/16 inch drill bit, drill a 1inch-deep pilot hole at every pencil marked point. Drive the screws that are part of the screw mounted hanger into the mounting holes using a screw gun

If you wish to use the shepherd's hooks, start by selecting a suitable location where you would wish to install the hook. Ensure you mark the ground using your foot. Next, you will be required to align the bottom of the shepherd's hook with the mark you created on the ground.

Then, you will turn the head of the shepherd's hook to be the same as where you would want to have your plants facing. The bottom of the hook should be firmly pushed to the ground as you set the direction of the head. You will reinforce the bottom with your feet after it has gotten to the soil a little just so you are sure it is strong enough.

It is always very important to put a lot of emphasis while planning your garden. Also ensure that you make a careful selection of the location in which you would wish to hang your plants and other items as well. Plant hangings in the garden can add an in-depth texture to it, especially during early and late in the season as this is actually when your plants are just starting to wither or to grow.

Installing garden hooks and hanging plants can add an exquisite accent to your home. Always remember to wear eye protection when working with tools. This helps to avoid getting injured.
