By Serena Price

If you have the right techniques and necessary tools, you may not need a professional for your tree trimming. Most of these tips are available over the internet and in many plant health related magazines. Normally, you would love to have a beautiful compound, a compound where you can be comfortable relaxing outdoors. This will largely depend on how well the plants around are trimmed.

First, it is important to understand why tree trimming is very important. It is done for safety to avoid obstruction. The branches should also not reach the utility lines like electricity. In addition to this, the old branches that are likely to fall off should also be trimmed off. Other reasons why you should trim include aesthetic beauty and health reasons. Pruning can be a way of saving the plant from an infection that is spreading. It is also done for training and betterment of the stem, fruit, flowers, foliage and other parts of the plan.

Before anything else, make sure to have the right tools with you. Among the tools you may need are the pruning knife, a pole pruner, pruning shear in form of an anvil cut or a scissor, gouges, hedge shear, a mallet a chain saw and a ladder in some occasions. Not all the tools are required at a particular time, but instead what you need largely depend on many factors. Before use however, they require sharpening and disinfection.

The tips vary depending on various factors including such as the tree size, the type, height and its health. The techniques of thinning the crown are to have lateral branches evenly spaced as much as possible. The cutting priority is also given to branches that are crossing others.

At any given time, not more than a quarter of the plant crown should be cleared in one season. Two-thirds of foliage should remain intact in the process raising the crown. On the other hand, the crown reduction should be avoided unless necessary. When doing this, be sure to cut off the branches which have half of foliage to be cleared.

When the target is to thin the crown of the tree, there are best practices that you need to be aware of. The lateral branches need even spacing and this should be done at all costs. Secondly, the branches crossing or running against other branches should be the priority. Not more than a quarter of the crown should be removed at a ago, instead, it should be spread over years.

The other important tip is to do pruning in the plant dormant season unless there is an argent need to do it. It is also important to select weaker branches and cut them off, particularly is they meet the main branch with a V-shape angle. The U-shaped branches on the other hands are strong and should be left to thrive.

Lastly, avoid removing branch collar and do it when branches are smaller as they leave less prominent scars and are much easy to manage. Tree trimming is not as hard as it seems. In fact, just a little practice and you get it. You should not forgetter to take precautionary measures like correctly handling tools and wearing protective clothing.
