Protect Your Building From Water Damage With Use A Concrete Moisture Sealer

Applying a concrete moisture sealer is one method of protecting your building from water damage. Buildings located in areas that have high moisture content levels are likely to suffer from water damage. Water infiltrates the surfaces and enters the interior of houses causing many problems including growth of molds and corrosion of metal structures. Wood structures will also decay, and if you do not take immediate action, you will incur a lot of costs.

If your building is designed with basement foundation and walls, it might be vulnerable to water damage. The basements and crawlspaces are located below ground level. This means that surface water from rainfall seep down the soils and settles inside basements. A building which has defective guttering systems or it is not installed with gutters may also experienced the problem of flooding.

The gutters allow water to pour down and settle adjacent to the walls. With time, the water penetrates through porous concretes walls and starts causing damage to the interior. Moreover, when the grading outside the premises is sloping towards the walls, it encourages the surface water to move towards the walls and foundation.

The strength and durability of concretes determines how your structure will survive. If you do not address issues of water damage in advance, the structure is likely to deteriorate fast than it is expected. Concretes have characteristics, which expose them to water damage. Concretes behave like a sponge, and absorb water and soluble salt substances, which are destructive. As the water enters the pores in concretes, it begins to migrate to other areas.

Water also brings in small amounts of contaminants like minerals and salts, and as it evaporates to the air, it leaves behind these salts on surfaces. Deposits of salts on walls of a building cause efflorescence. This is powdery substance, which forms of walls, foundations, or floors due to the deposits of minerals as water molecules evaporate.

At times, the weather in an area may increase the water vapor in the atmosphere thus causing the masonry work to absorb moisture. The grading should be designed to allow water to flow away from basement foundation. Gutters need to restored and the plumbing fixtures repaired. The backfill areas may also increase the possibility of water seeping through basement foundation walls.

The flooding may be addressed by tackling the problem of grading and the drainage systems to prevent more surface water from reaching the grounds near the buildings. Concretes come in different material substrates and types. The concretes may be found in your driveways, basements foundation, building walls, patios, brick pavers, and parking lots. Concretes are important structural materials, which have good strength and durability, but they tend to suffer from water infiltrations.

If you do not protect your concretes materials from water, you will incur expenses through repairs and replacement of building structures. Applying a concrete moisture sealer will prevent your building structure from damage caused by water. The sealer product will offer a protective layer, which prevents the concretes from absorbing water. This goes a long way in improving the structural strength and durability of your building. Besides, it protects the surfaces from forming cracks, which can increase the rate of water seepage into the interior of homes.
