Best Methods For Stump Removal

By Sally Delacruz

Several large stumps located at a single place make it look ugly and unattractive for investment. Therefore stump removal is an important activity in raising the beauty, safety, and economic value of a site. If the stumps are small, they cause a threat to people who pass by because they may knock themselves down on them. They must therefore be removed especially if they are located in a place that is often filled by people.

The work of falling trees does not end at cutting the trees down and carrying the logs and the leaves away. The stumps should also be part of the job. One has two options for doing this job done. First, they can rent equipment from rental companies and do the work on their own and secondly they can solicit the help of service companies. Newspapers and internet are useful in finding local firms.

In Spring Hill Florida it takes not less than 90 US dollars for a service company to eliminate one piece of stub. On the other hand, renting companies charges different amounts for their machine depending on the size. It does not however cost less than 100 USD to rent the machine per day. Therefore it is economical to hire a grinder rather than a service company if the stumps are many. Most renting firms give some training and tips regarding use of their devices.

There are five major methods one can use to eliminate stumps from their compounds. Each method takes different amounts of efforts, money, and time to get the job done. One should choose a method with a combination of money, time, and effort that suits their needs best. The methods can be broadly categorized as mechanical, chemical, manual, natural, and use of fire.

In the chemical method, chemical products are used to speed up the rotting process of the wood. Most chemical products contain potassium nitrate as the main chemical for fastening decomposition. The chemical is poured into the stub through holes drilled at the top and on the sides. The rate of decomposition of the wood depends on the product used. Some take a couple of weeks whereas others take months. After decomposition has completed, the stub remains soft and weak to be removed with an axe.

Mechanical method makes use of machinery. The most common piece of equipment used is the wood grinder. Grinders have teeth for chipping off wood. The teeth should be directed at the stump to grind it. People with the right skills can do the job in a matter of minutes. As a safety measure, plastics, glass, metals, and stones should be removed from the site before the process is began.

The third method involves using manual tools like spades, machetes, and axes to dig the stub out. To do the job fast and effective, one should dig a perimeter around the piece to reveal as many roots as possible before going in for the tap root. This method is very tiring, time-consuming, and may be unnecessary if the item involved is very large.

It is faster and less expensive to remove stubs that are situated away from the public buying just burning them down. The process is more efficient if fuel like kerosene is added onto the wood. However, one should always avoid using combustible fuels.
